But we are fewer still. We are the ones who really know what is to be. We see the darkness. We see the change. We see the light fade. And we embrace it. For we know that it is not a call to Winter, this period we enter. No! It is a call to one thing, and one thing only! It is a call to a day of nightmares. A day of fantasies. A day of myths and whispers. A day of fear and exaltation. A day that is like no other in the entirety of Time itself! A day BEYOND time, bearing many names but one purpose! Hear the call, brothers and sisters! For HALLOWEEN will soon be upon us!
As of tomorrow, it will OFFICIALLY be October! All geeks around the world rejoice and revel, for soon people will want to be just like us! Okay, maybe not exactly like us, but the sentiment still stands! As kids, Halloween was without a doubt our favorite holiday (well, maybe before Christmas stuff was put up in stores in November). And as adults, Halloween remains our favorite still (until, afterward, you remember that St. Patrick's Day is steadily approaching in the US). The times may change, but some traditions still stand. Unfortunately, it's only two for adults: dressing up, and going out at night. My preponderance over the state of the holiday has lead me to this point: Most people really don't care about the spirit of the holiday, because it gives them the excuse to just indulge in vices while dressed as a hot dog.
Ladies and gentleman, we have officially entered a time where imagination has run dry. For instance, the pic to my left. If you're wondering WHY I had a Lady Gaga pic in here, the answers simple: THAT'S THE BIGGEST SELLING COSTUME THIS YEAR!! The big two for women are Lady Gaga (insert video costume here) and Snooki from the Jersey Shore. For men, they really don't care because men have a lot of simple, "classic" options to go as. I call it the GTO (or "Gimme THAT ONE") syndrome. In short, people want IMMEDIATE SATISFACTION when deciding on everything nowadays, and that isn't only found in costumes. Music, films, even personal relations are decided with satisfaction in mind, rather maintaining a status and ignoring having a timeless quality! Yes, I know people are fickle, but the modern concern is placed on attainment, rather than on the effort.
That's not to say that effort isn't being done, however. All that matters is INSPIRATION! With the right resources and inspiration, it's relatively easy to pull off even more complex costumes. Horror, fantasy, action movies, kung fu films, there are a lot of choices to be had! But which films would be the most inspiring? That's what the purpose of this event is for! Both a review and a guide to Halloween enjoyment, each film in this series has been selected for a few reasons: To get you pumped up for Halloween Night, expose you to some choices you may have previously been unaware of, and give you a sample idea of a potential character to dress up as for Halloween!
The Season is upon us! Hope you're ready! Cause this year you aren't going alone! Mostly cause I want some free Snickers and Reese's Peanut Butter cups, myself! See you tomorrow with the first film on my list: Children of the Corn!
